An important branch of swissplast’s business is the production of plastic packaging solutions. Having packaging made from plastic has various advantages when you compare plastic with other materials such as wood, metal or cardboard. Plastic packaging is lighter than wooden packaging and therefore easier to handle. Plastic is also a cheaper material to work with. Metal, primarily sheet metal, is stable but neither as impact-resistant nor as lightweight as plastic. In addition, the processing of metal requires a lot of energy due to the high heat needed for melting and is therefore less economical than the processing of plastic. Cardboard is the lightest and cheapest packaging material, but it cannot compete with plastic packaging in terms of durability.
